Parnalls Solicitors’ Katherine Flashman Kitson attended Polwhele House last term to run a mock trial exercise with the pupils.
The case involved alleged possession of a bladed weapon within a public place and was run on real trial principles and the pupils all had roles including Prosecution and Defence legal team, witnesses, Defendants, Usher, Clerk, Press and Court Artists and two Juries.
The Juries operated independently and both Juries found the Defendants guilty!
Katherine Flashman Kitson says “it is really important that young people understand the way our justice system works and have trust and confidence in it. The pupils were incredibly receptive to the issues and the roles they played and everyone did a super job. It was a real privilege working with them and giving them an insight into the law both as a process and potentially, who knows, a future career”.
