The Speaker was fascinating, Pat Tyrrell, OBE whose speech was entitled “A Spy through the Periscope”.
Katherine says “Fascinating talk by Pat Tyrrell who served in the Royal Navy from 1976 to 2002 on submarines before moving to an analytical appointment in the Defence Intelligence Staff, served in NATO and was then appointed into Defence Policy in the MoD, eventually retiring with a rank of Commodore. He has a chemistry degree from Jesus College, Oxford and studied for a law degree as a submariner in rest periods! His speech was utterly fascinating and I wish we could have heard more. When I last attended the Padstow Lunch David Cornwell/ John le Carré spoke, also a fascinating man, and sadly no longer with us. Lunch was very good as well as always with the Seafood Restaurant”.
