The government have announced details of a £2bn Green Homes Grant which will be available to hundreds of thousands of home owners and landlords. Under the new scheme which will be available from September, the Government will pay at least two thirds of the cost of eligible energy-saving home improvements, up to a maximum of £5,000 per household, which are expected to include improvements such as insulation, double glazing and new boilers. The payment from the government will be in the form of a voucher.
To apply for such a voucher, home owners and landlords will need to complete an online application form for the recommended home improvements, obtain a quote from one of the listed suppliers and have the quote approved. If approved, a voucher will be issued to be applied towards the cost of the works.
Low income households will not have to contribute towards the cost of improvement works and could receive up to £10,000.
The grant will only be available for one year from September 2020 and further details of the scheme will be released in the coming weeks.
